The Upper and Lower Towns
Donji grad is known as the Lower Town and Gornji grad which is known as the Upper Town are the sacred, civilizing and business centers of Zagreb. Most of the restaurants, bars and tourist sights are located here. The Upper Town which is the medieval core of the city, is developed as two separate and often towns in war –Kaptol and Gradec. Kaptol is the town where the seat of the Bishop is located where the Cathedral is located. Gradec is the free town where artisans and tradesman lived which was declared by King Bela of Hungary in the 12th century and it was merged in 1770s to complete the northern section of historic Zagreb.
