Innsbruck is a capital city of Tyrol’s federal state in Western Austria and is situated in Inn Valley at connection with Wipptal that offers access to Brenner Pass, around 30 kilometers south of Innsbruck. It is situated in broad valley between tall mountains called Nordkette in north and Serles and Patscherkofel in south. It is considered as one of the globally renowned winter sports centre and hosted the 1988 and 1984 Winter Paralympics and 1976 and 1964 Winter Olympics. In the 4th century, Veldidena, an army station was founded by Romans for protecting the economically significant commercial road from Verona-Brenner-Augsburg. The coat of arms and city’s seal illustrate bird’s eye view of Inn Bridge, designed used from 1267. It became the Tyrol’s capital in the year 1429 and became the centre of European politics in 15th century and culture as emperor Maximilan I.
The winters of Innsbruck are cold, colder as compared to other major European cities – snowy. Summer is highly unpredictable and variable, and days can be cool, rainy or sunny and sometimes even extremely hot. Along with Lake Place, New York in United States and St. Moritz, Innsbruck is one of the three places, which have twice hosted the Winter Games.
